Ingredients (serves 2)
Avalakki - one and 3/4 cup
Onion - 1 large diced into large slices
Potato - 1/2 thinly sliced
Green Chilli - 4 slit along the centre
Lemon juice of half a lemon
For Tempering
Mustard + jeera - 1/4 tea spoon
hing - 1 pinch
Groundnuts - half a handful
Channa dal - 1 tablespoon
Urad dal - 1 tablespoon
Curry leaves - a sprig or around 10 leaves
Coriander leaves - 3-4 stems (stems??)
Oil - 4-6 tablespoons
Turmeric - 1/4 teaspoon
Table salt - 1/2 to 3/4 teaspoon
Method:
1. Wash the avalakki in water one time and then soak in water. Leave aside
2. Heat a kadai and add the oil
3. When the oil starts to heat up, add the mustard/jeera mixture, wait till it splutters
4. Add the groundnuts and wait till is starts to lightly brown
5. At this time add the chana dal and the ural dal
6. Wait for 1/2 a min and add the onions, potatoes, chilli, curry leaves, cover and cook for 6-8 mins till the potatoes are cooked through
7. Add turmeric, salt and chopped coriander leaves. Stir
8. Add lemon juice
9. Strain avalakki and and add avalakki to kadai, stir and leave covered for a couple of mins
10. Turn off flame. Serve
